Not sure what to wear for your family photo session?
You’re not alone… and you’re in the right place.
Most families want that perfect balance… to look amazing, feel comfortable, and keep the vibe relaxed and fun. The goal is timeless, classic images that reflect you…the real connection, the laughter, the love. Since we’ll be moving, snuggling, and playing during your session, let’s make sure your outfits move with you and feel like you.

{Choosing the Right Style}
The style and color of the clothing you choose can make or break a great family session. We want you to look at these images and cherish this time with your family. Clothing that blends and complements the photos, allows us to focus on you, not to see trends or colors that detract from the feelings evoked when seeing them.
Start with mom (that’s you!) Choose an outfit you love and makes you feel your absolute best. Order and try on several until you find the perfect fit.
- long, flowy dress (my personal favorite)
- romper
- chunky sweater/linen or rayon pants
- layered blouse/jacket with skirt or slacks
For dad:
- flannel shirt over a tee
- henley or 3/4 zip pullover
- dark jeans/khakis
- skip performance fabrics, they often show more than we would like on camera
For kiddos:
- Girls: flowy dresses, rompers, skirts with sweaters, layered with a sweater or jacket works well
- Boys: dark jeans, overalls, button downs over tees, Henley, vests and jackets as a layer as well

{Color Guidelines: do’s & don’ts}
- best colors are neutrals, darker, earth tones, mixed with a classic color or two such as burgundy, dark green, denim blue, mustard, or rust
- stripes are acceptable if spaced apart and small florals in neutral & classic colors
- most importantly – keep the colors natural, classic, and neutral
- avoid bright colors, and NO neons! Often these cause funky color casts on the skin!

One last thing… These styles and/or colors may not be your “go-tos” for everyday dress but they are definitely “photography session” worthy! They will photograph beautifully and flatter you as well. Trust me!
{Styled with intention: Bringing it all together}
Layers & textures. These add SO much to the overall look/style of the session. Chunky sweaters, blue jean jackets, vests, ruffles, corduroy, lace, and cardigans over clothing all add to the dimensions within the pictures.
Comfortable shoes and clothing. Soft fabrics and clothing you all can easily move and do all the fun things in work best! There is nothing worse in a beautifully crafted family session than a child whose shoes are too tight or clothes are not comfortable. It kills the vibe and ruins their mood. We want happy, happy kiddos, oh, and dads!
Shop early – this allows plenty of time to receive items, try them on, and return if necessary to get the best look
Avoid heels. We will be walking, running, snuggling, twirling – all the things. We want all the experiences with your family and not being hindered by footwear!
Clothing that fits well! No shirts that ride up when having fun. No one constantly adjusting clothing that is ill-fitted.
No undergarments showing – diapers, bras, underwear.
No see -through clothing
Please avoid white shirts & jeans for everyone!
The key is to coordinate, not match! No matchy, matchy!

And a little rule… “Flatter what you love, cover what you don’t”
