Not sure what to wear for your newborn photos? I’m here to help!

It can feel like an overwhelming task. You probably aren’t sleeping well, laundry is piling up, your shape has and is changing in drastic ways.

The good news? You don’t have to overthink it. The key is choosing simple, neutral clothing that keeps the focus on your baby’s tiny details and your family’s loving connection. Below are my best tips to help you feel confident and camera-ready on the big  day.

KEEP IT SIMPLE AND NEUTRAL

Neutral (think beige, cream, white, gray, brown) or muted earth tones/pastels tend to photograph best during newborn sessions. They tend to be timeless colors, and are usually the most flattering option for skin (both yours and your baby’s!). Neutral colors allow the focus to rest on baby, which is the entire point of the photo session!

Incorporating textures like knits, lace, or linen can add depth and visual interest to your photos without overpowering the baby. A chunky knit sweater or a delicate lace dress can elevate the look while keeping it soft, elegant, and beautiful!

For your newborn, simplicity is key.

LET’S AVOID THESE

  • Logos or graphics. Not only are they distracting, they tend to date your photos much faster than other clothing choices.
  • Large patterns or florals. They tend to cause chaos, distract from faces, and create busy images.
  • Avoid too many accessories. These can get in the way of handing your new baby and also date your images.
  • No neon colors. Your clothes will reflect light back on to your skin, and neon colors create unflattering skin tones, especially on newborns!
  • I also suggest not over accessorizing with lots of jewelry or scarves.
